Málaga's cultural agenda this week
September suits Málaga well. With summer easing off the heat but not the pace, the city opens the month with a cultural agenda that blends the birth of a festival set to make history, front-rank indie pop, artisan tradition and live music across the city. As European Capital of Gastronomic Culture 2026–2027, Málaga is enjoying a particularly rich cultural moment. Here's our guide to the best the city has to offer from 31 August to 6 September.
Popular festivals: the Fiestas de la Victoria are born
The event of the week is, without question, the debut of the Fiestas de la Victoria (3–6 September). Driven by Cervezas Victoria alongside the city and provincial councils, they arrive with the ambition of reviving a celebration deeply tied to Málaga's identity and restoring its popular character. Over four days, music, food and traditions take over four stages across the city: the Cervezas Victoria brewery, La Térmica, the La Malagueta bullring and Parque de San Rafael.
The line-up runs across generations and styles, with Málaga and national names like El Kanka, María Peláe, Carlos Sadness, Tabletom and Alizzz. Beyond the concerts, the programme champions the local with a traditional verbena, an artisan market and craft workshops. Tickets €12–17 depending on the venue at fiestasdelavictoria.com.
Live music: from indie to cumbia
The week's soundtrack goes well beyond the Fiestas. On Friday the 4th, Carlos Sadness brings his luminous pop and Mediterranean aesthetic to La Térmica as part of the Victoria bill: one of Spanish indie's best-loved artists, able to sell out venues like La Riviera and Razzmatazz.
For other sounds, the week offers plenty of variety: the legendary cumbia of Ráfaga on Wednesday the 2nd at Sala Trinchera, a Brazilian music series at La Polivalente that same night, and the jazz of Jacob Kellerman on Saturday at the Patio de Surtidores. On Sunday, the chamber music of Quinteto 1909 adds a refined finish at the Fundación Unicaja Cultural Centre.
Performing arts and young talent
The city's Festijoven series, one of the highlights of Málaga's cultural summer, closes its season at the Auditorio Eduardo Ocón. On Tuesday the 1st at 20:00 the stage gives itself over to K-Pop — a sign of the contemporary turn of a programme that across the summer has brought together flamenco, dance, jazz and classical performed by young Málaga artists. Free entry until the venue fills, at the open-air auditorium on Paseo del Parque.
Living culture: the biznaguero tradition
No Málaga cultural agenda would be complete without its craft. On Sunday the 6th at 11:00, Fábrica Victoria hosts a biznaga workshop, where you can learn the biznaguero trade first-hand: the art of weaving jasmine flowers onto a dried nardo frame to create one of the most endearing symbols of the city's summer nights. A family plan that connects directly to Málaga's roots.
Meetups for curious minds
Culture is also knowledge and community. This week, the Málaga AI Meetup (Thursday the 3rd, Málaga Terrace) brings together the city's growing tech community, while the Málaga MSX Meeting (Saturday the 5th, National Digital Content Hub) celebrates retro-computing culture. Two dates that show the other cultural face of a city increasingly tied to innovation.
